How Dedicated Servers Hosting Works
When we talk about hosting servers, there are three basic sorts - shared website hosting web servers, VPS (Virtual Private Servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared hosting servers host a lot of clients and thus the system resources per user account are limited, virtual private server plans offer more server configuration independence, but also affect other VPSs on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the chance to do everything you prefer without meddling with anyone else.
Why would you require a dedicated hosting server?
Dedicated servers are usually much more expensive than shared servers or VPSs. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The explanation is very simple. If your firm has a resource-devouring online portal, or simply has very exact server configuration requirements, the right choice would be a dedicated server. For someone who is ready to invest in safety and reliability, the bigger price is of no concern. You get full server root access and can use 100 percent of the physical server's resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and messing with your web sites.
Hardware configurations
Most shared hosting vendors, incl. us at RaH Services, provide different hardware configurations you can select from according to your needs. The configurations include different sorts of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard disk drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can choose a hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient graphical user interface if you would like to use the server for hosting purposes only and prefer not to resort to an SSH client for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 sorts of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The Control Panel of your choosing
If you are a confident Linux OS user (our hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server via a Secure Shell console only. That, though, could be awkward, particularly if you choose to give access to someone else who has less technical experience than yourself. This is why having hosting CP software installed is a brilliant idea. The Hepsia Control Panel interface that we provide does not give you full root access and is chiefly suitable for someone who maintains a lot of online portals that demand plenty of system resources, but wants to manage the sites, databases and e-mail accounts via a user-friendly web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you root-level access and offer three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting packages rather than using the web hosting server only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.
Server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your web hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring platform activated. Here at RaH Services the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated hosting server too. Backups are also a bonus feature - the hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would allow you to save the same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a precaution in the event of a server hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given full root privileges erases something by mistake.
